Sedation Dentistry

Helping You Feel Comfortable in North York

At Global Dental Centre, North York, we understand that dental visits can be stressful. Our sedation dentistry options are designed to help patients feel more relaxed and comfortable during treatment, making dental care easier to access for those with anxiety or dental sensitivities.

Sedation Options We Offer

Oral Sedation
Oral sedatives are taken as a pill prior to treatment. They provide a mild to moderate sedative effect, helping patients feel calmer during dental procedures. The effect typically takes some time to become fully noticeable.

Nitrous Oxide (Gaseous Sedation)
Nitrous oxide, commonly called “laughing gas,” is inhaled through a mask and provides a gentle, immediate relaxing effect. The level of sedation can be adjusted to your comfort, and its effects wear off quickly after treatment.

Combined Sedation
For patients with higher levels of dental anxiety, both oral and nitrous oxide sedation may be recommended. Your dentist will assess your needs and determine the most appropriate approach for your comfort and safety.

Supporting Relaxation During Dental Care

Even in a welcoming and friendly environment, some patients experience nervousness or anxiety at the dentist. Sedation dentistry can help manage these feelings, allowing you to receive the care you need in a calm and controlled manner.

Sedation Dentistry FAQs

What is sedation dentistry?

Sedation dentistry uses medications to help patients feel calm and relaxed during dental procedures. It can be especially helpful for those with dental anxiety or sensitive teeth.

Yes. Sedation is administered under the supervision of trained dental professionals. Your medical history is reviewed to ensure the safest approach.

Sedation levels vary. Nitrous oxide provides relaxation while remaining conscious, and oral sedation ranges from mild drowsiness to deeper relaxation. Your dentist will explain what to expect.

Nitrous oxide effects wear off quickly after the mask is removed, while oral sedatives may take a few hours to fully wear off. Your dentist will provide guidance on aftercare.

For oral sedation, patients are generally advised to have a companion for transportation home. Nitrous oxide usually allows patients to drive themselves after treatment.
